Turnpike Truck Accident Injures Two

Two men were injured Monday in an auto accident morning when their landscaping truck was apparetly cut off by a tractor trailer on the Florida Turnpike. Joseph Pierre and Amos Joseph were in stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital after their flatbed truck crashed off an overpass Turnpike overpass.

According to the Miami Herald:

The truck swerved to the right and smashed through the guardrail, barreling face first down a steep, grassy incline. It took out a fence and light pole before smashing face first onto westbound lanes of Miami Gardens Drive below, between Northwest 13th and 14th avenues, and then rolling over onto its side, police and fire officials said.

"It was like someone diving into a pool," (FHP spokesman Pat) Santangelo said of the vertical free-fall -- which shattered the truck's front grill, popped off its front tires and crumpled the engine up into the windshield, he added.

"It's fortunate that no vehicles were passing underneath at the time, because it could've easily landed on top"' of one passing in the heavy rush hour traffic then flowing below along Miami Gardens Drive, Santangelo said.
