An 11 year old girl in front of her school Tuesday when a woman drove her silver Lexus through a red light, waving crossing gaurds and flashing lights, hitting Diannet Leyva as she walked in the crosswalk holding her 19 year-old sister's hand. The girl was declared brain dead within minutes after arriving at the hospital.

Police have written numerous tickets for traffic violations in the area, but complain about the lack of attention and care drivers are taking in school zones. Fifty-six year old Palmenia Alfonso, the driver of the Lexus, was charged with reckless driving. This charge was subsequently increased to vehicular manslaughter when the girl died of her injuries Tuesday night.
